Our Industrial Heritage
Today P5/6/7 had the opportunity to learn all about the shirt-making history of the city thanks to a day organised by Féile. We had a visit from Deirdre Williams (Stitch Saves Nine) where the children found out just how difficult sewing can be! Even threading a needle can be tricky and Mr Torney really struggled with it, so it was a good job Deirdre was there to help us out. The children then had a go at sewing their initials on some shirt fabric.
Local artist Caroline Devenney joined us later in the day when children got to design a person wearing a shirt. There were some fantastic designs and they had different fabrics and materials they were able to use when making their model. Lots of amazing work by the class today!
